Ethics Review
We provide both ethical approval and ongoing guidance around ethics for community research projects.
Our Ethics Review process focuses on ensuring research projects in Lambeth are guided by the needs and priorities of communities and the community-based organisations that serve them; directly engage and meaningfully involve community members throughout the research process; and lead to change for the communities involved through action and influencing.
The framework has been developed in collaboration with community members and an academic consultant from King’s College London’s Inspiring Ethics group. You can read more about how we developed the framework here.
LCRN network members and external organisations can apply for ethical approval from the LCRN Steering Group. Further detail on this process is given below.

Community Research Checklist
In order to access support from LCRN (capacity building, brokering partnerships etc.) for your community research project, you will need to complete our LCRN Community Research Checklist. The checklist is designed to guide you through key considerations to ensure your project aligns with our values and meets our ethical standards.
- We advise that you review our Research Charter and/or contact us before completing the checklist to discuss your research ideas and plans with one of our team.
- Please submit your completed checklist to Harry Jenkins, Senior Researcher at High Trees, at harry.jenkins@high-trees.org.
- Your checklist will be reviewed by the LCRN Steering Group. Following this, we will update you on the outcome of your submission and next steps.

Ethical approval
If you are looking for ethical approval, you will need to complete our LCRN Ethics Application Form. The application form is designed for you to share your project plans in detail and explain how it aligns with our values and meets our ethical standards for community research.
You can seek ethical approval from LCRN alongside seeking it from other bodies, such as a university’s ethics review process.
- We advise that you review our Research Charter and/or contact us before completing the application form to discuss your research plans and ethical concerns with one of our team.
- Please submit your completed application form Harry Jenkins, Senior Researcher at High Trees, at harry.jenkins@high-trees.org.
- Your application will be reviewed by the LCRN Steering Group. In some cases, your application may also be reviewed by community members.
- We will update you on the outcome of your application, providing feedback and guidance as necessary.
- You will be required to provide updates on any changes to your research plans and/or ethical concerns that arise.
